Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing divine entities, demons, and sinister influences growing in power within the city.

Warning: Key plot points for the latest installment of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of characters who will branch out from the central cast to begin their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

Per the DM, the warrior group is for players who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are rare.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might appear mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the team knows exactly where to go next after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose death started the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, striking the rogue, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The antagonist then paid off his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each character has a individual motive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the region and warns that it is a hostile place.
  • The warrior and The healer, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • However, their status as prominent individuals in the influential clan could assist the group reach areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character pledged a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The healer turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This results in them few options but to travel to Timmony in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

From episode three’s Cooldown, we find out that the warrior group won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Explorers and Planners groups.

Viewers can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be in which group in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
